Ford Reports 15% Increase in U.S. EV Sales Amid Overall Decline

Ford’s EV Growth in February 2025

Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F) saw a notable 15% increase in electric vehicle (EV) sales in the U.S. in February 2025, despite an overall decline in total vehicle deliveries. The automaker sold 7,326 EVs, up from 6,368 units in the same period last year.

The surge was primarily driven by strong performances from the E-Transit and Mustang Mach-E, even as the F-150 Lightning and E-Series van faced setbacks.

E-Transit and Mustang Mach-E Drive Growth

Ford’s All-Electric Commercial Van & SUV Lead the Charge

  • E-Transit: 111% sales increase, with 1,815 units sold in February (vs. 860 in 2024).
  • Mustang Mach-E: 13% growth, with 3,312 units sold (vs. 2,930 last year).

Setbacks in Key EV Models

  • F-150 Lightning: 14.7% drop in sales (2,199 units sold).
  • E-Series Van: 16.2% decline, totaling 2,968 units.

Hybrid Sales Surge While ICE Vehicle Sales Decline

  • Hybrid Sales: 27.5% year-over-year increase, reaching 15,357 units sold.
  • Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) Vehicles: 12.7% decline, contributing to an overall 8.9% drop in total vehicle deliveries (158,675 units sold).

Trade Tariffs and Future Challenges

Ford’s performance comes amid heightened uncertainty due to proposed tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada under President Donald Trump’s trade policies.

CEO Jim Farley’s Concerns

  • Prolonged tariff disputes could cost U.S. automakers billions in profits.
  • Ford’s Domestic Strength: Over 80% of its vehicles are built in the U.S., with more than half of its engines produced domestically, providing an advantage over competitors with higher foreign reliance.

Stock Performance & Investor Sentiment

Following the sales report, Ford shares traded higher by 1.94%, reaching $9.735 as of Monday’s market check. The stock’s movement reflects investor optimism around Ford’s expanding EV and hybrid sales, despite broader industry challenges.

As Ford continues to navigate market shifts, its growing EV and hybrid segments position it as a strong contender in the evolving automotive landscape.
