The Kansas City Chiefs are heading into the offseason looking for redemption after a crushing Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. But as they regroup, they may also have to brace for the possibility of losing a key offensive weapon to one of their biggest rivals—the Buffalo Bills.
The Bills and Chiefs, led by star quarterbacks Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes, have developed one of the NFL’s fiercest rivalries. While Kansas City has historically had the upper hand, Buffalo remains in constant pursuit of overtaking them. Now, Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley predicts that wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown could switch sides, leaving the Chiefs to sign with the Bills.
Brown was a target for Mahomes last offseason, with ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reporting that the quarterback pushed for Kansas City to sign him. Injuries, however, derailed Brown’s season, preventing him from establishing chemistry with Mahomes. Fowler also revealed that Allen has long wanted to play with Brown, raising the stakes in this free-agency battle.
“Mahomes advocated for signing Brown last year and will likely do so again,” Fowler wrote. “Will another star quarterback—like Josh Allen—be next? People with the Chiefs I spoke to this week believe that Allen has long wanted to play with Brown.”
With the emergence of rookie Xavier Worthy and the return of Rashee Rice, the Chiefs might decide to move on from Brown. If they do, Buffalo could pounce on the opportunity to add a dynamic playmaker to Allen’s arsenal.
The Bills have remained contenders with Allen at the helm but have repeatedly fallen short in the playoffs—often at the hands of Mahomes and the Chiefs. Adding a player like Brown could be the missing piece that helps them finally get over the hump.
Meanwhile, Mahomes is coming off one of his least productive statistical seasons, posting career lows in yards and touchdowns since becoming a starter. On the other hand, Allen won league MVP and showed improved decision-making. If Brown joins Buffalo, it could further intensify the arms race between these AFC powerhouses.
With free agency looming, the battle for Brown’s services could be yet another chapter in the growing Chiefs-Bills rivalry.
