Jamie Carragher Slams Tottenham Midfield After Disastrous Carabao Cup Exit

Jamie Carragher was left disgusted by Tottenham Hotspur’s performance in their humiliating 4-0 Carabao Cup semi-final defeat to Liverpool on Thursday night. The former Reds defender singled out Spurs’ midfield trio of Yves Bissouma, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Pape Matar Sarr for their lack of intensity, as Ange Postecoglou’s side collapsed at Anfield.

Tottenham arrived with a narrow 1-0 aggregate lead but were completely outclassed by Arne Slot’s dominant Liverpool side, who booked their place in the final against Newcastle United at Wembley. Goals from Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Virgil van Dijk secured a resounding victory for the hosts.

Carragher, speaking on Sky Sports, did not hold back in his criticism of Spurs’ midfield, who he felt failed to put up any resistance.

“When I looked at those three midfield players today, I thought they were a disgrace,” Carragher fumed. “You’re playing a semi-final. Liverpool will be on the ball and put you under pressure, but get after them—be aggressive.”

He went on to compare Tottenham’s effort unfavorably to a recent FA Cup clash, saying, “Accrington Stanley gave more than Tottenham tonight and gave Liverpool more of a problem. That’s not right.”

Spurs’ Cup Woes Continue

Tottenham’s wait for a first trophy since their 2008 League Cup triumph goes on, as they delivered a toothless performance, failing to register a single shot on target. With the FA Cup and Europa League still in play, Postecoglou’s side now faces mounting pressure.

Spurs, currently languishing in 14th place in the Premier League after 13 losses in 24 matches, face a tough FA Cup fourth-round tie against Aston Villa on Sunday. Another poor showing could increase scrutiny on Postecoglou, whose second season in charge is quickly unraveling.
