Jets Set for Major Overhaul as Aaron Rodgers, Davante Adams Likely to Depart

The New York Jets are heading into a transformative offseason, with reports indicating that the team is moving on from quarterback Aaron Rodgers. According to FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer, the Jets have informed Rodgers that they plan to go in a different direction, setting the stage for a significant shakeup.

With Rodgers out of the picture, the next major domino to fall could be wide receiver Davante Adams. Adams joined the Jets in 2024 to reunite with his former Green Bay Packers teammate, but with the team now seemingly hitting the reset button, his future in New York is in serious doubt.

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox predicts that the Jets will part ways with Adams, either through a trade or outright release, making the six-time Pro Bowler one of the biggest names on the 2025 open market.

“Unless Glenn believes he can win immediately with New York’s current roster, a lot would likely have to happen for Adams to return,” Knox wrote. “The 32-year-old would likely need to restructure his contract, and the Jets would likely need to retain Rodgers. The prediction here, however, is that the Jets favor a reset, allowing Adams to become one of the bigger names on the 2025 open market.”

Financially, moving on from Adams would provide the Jets with much-needed cap relief. Per Over The Cap, cutting Adams outright would free up $29.8 million in cap space while incurring an $8.3 million dead-cap charge. If designated as a post-June 1 cut or trade, the savings increase to $36.1 million, giving the team more flexibility.

While releasing Adams is an option, the Jets may first explore a trade in hopes of recouping at least part of the third-round pick they surrendered to acquire him from the Las Vegas Raiders. Either way, it seems increasingly likely that Adams will be wearing a different uniform in 2025.

His departure would leave a glaring hole in New York’s receiving corps. Garrett Wilson remains a strong No. 1 option, but depth behind him is lacking. Allen Lazard could step into a bigger role, but with Rodgers gone, his own future with the team is uncertain. Whether through the draft or free agency, the Jets will need to prioritize adding firepower to their offense as they embark on a new era.
