Kyrie Irving, Anthony Davis Headline Mavericks-Cavaliers Injury Report Amid Shocking Trade

The Dallas Mavericks’ matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday just became even more intriguing after a blockbuster trade sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis and Max Christie. While the deal is yet to be finalized, it dramatically alters the Mavericks’ roster heading into this crucial game.

Injury Concerns for the Mavericks

Dallas will be without Doncic, who was already sidelined with a calf strain and was expected to return on February 8. Maxi Kleber, who was also part of the trade, recently underwent foot surgery and is unlikely to play again this season.

Meanwhile, Kyrie Irving (right shoulder soreness), Daniel Gafford (left ankle soreness), and P.J. Washington (right knee soreness) are all listed as questionable for Sunday’s contest. Irving was visibly struggling with his shoulder during Friday’s game against the Detroit Pistons and had previously missed a matchup against the Cavaliers in early January.

Anthony Davis, though now technically a Maverick, has been out for the past two games with an abdominal injury. Given the timing of the trade and his recent health concerns, it’s unlikely he will make his debut for Dallas in this game. Max Christie, also acquired in the deal, may need more time before seeing action.

Cavaliers’ Injury Report

Cleveland has its own injury concerns, with Isaac Okoro (right shoulder AC joint sprain) and Dean Wade (right knee bone bruise) already ruled out. Caris LeVert (right wrist sprain) and Craig Porter Jr. (illness) are listed as questionable.

With several key players either missing or questionable, this game could have a completely different feel than expected. Dallas will need to adjust quickly to life without Doncic, while Cleveland looks to capitalize on a Mavericks team in transition.
