The No. 18 Nebraska softball team put on an offensive clinic Friday morning, steamrolling Texas A&M-Corpus Christi with a 20-1 run-rule victory in just five innings at the Troy Cox Classic in Las Cruces, N.M.

The Huskers’ offense exploded with 13 hits, 18 RBIs, and five home runs, marking their highest run total since April 3, 2016. A pair of eight-run innings fueled the blowout, showcasing Nebraska’s balanced attack and deep lineup.

Offensive Onslaught Fuels Huskers’ Dominance

Freshman Malia Thoms highlighted the offensive showcase with the first home run of her career—a pinch-hit grand slam in the fourth inning, driving in a career-high four RBIs.

Jordy Bahl, Ava Kuszak, Talia Tokheim, and Alina Felix also launched home runs, with Felix’s two-run blast in the fifth sealing the run-rule win.

Game Recap: Huskers Respond to Early Deficit

Despite Nebraska’s dominant performance, the Islanders struck first, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a Skylar Heger RBI single.

However, Nebraska responded immediately in the second inning. Emmerson Cope walked, and Samantha Bland singled before an Islander error allowed Nessa McMillen to score. A Lauren Camenzind RBI single brought in another run, giving NU a 2-1 lead.

Big Innings Propel Nebraska

The Huskers blew the game wide open with an eight-run third inning, highlighted by Jordy Bahl’s second homer of the season and Ava Kuszak’s three-run shot. Nebraska pushed the lead to 10-1 by the end of the frame.

An explosive fourth inning followed, as Nebraska tacked on eight more runs. Thoms’ grand slam was the defining moment, extending the lead to 15-1.
