Sacramento Kings Sign Markelle Fultz to Fill De’Aaron Fox Void

The Sacramento Kings had a De’Aaron Fox-sized hole at point guard after trading their star to the San Antonio Spurs last week. Now, they’ve found a solution: Markelle Fultz.

According to Shams Charania of ESPN, the former No. 1 overall pick has agreed to a deal with Sacramento. While the terms of the contract haven’t been disclosed, Fultz joins a Kings team in dire need of playmaking depth.

Fultz’s Return: Can He Step Into a Starting Role?

Fultz didn’t sign with a team at the start of the 2024-25 season due to an offseason injury. However, he has since fully recovered and attracted interest from multiple teams before ultimately landing in Sacramento.

Why the Kings Needed Fultz

🟣 Fox Trade Left a Void: Sacramento sent De’Aaron Fox to the Spurs for Zach LaVine, Sidy Cissoko, and draft picks.
🟣 Malik Monk Has Been Playing PG: The Kings have been forced to use Monk at point guard, which is not his natural position.
🟣 Fultz Brings Experience: He averaged 14.0 points & 5.7 assists in 2022-23 as a starter for Orlando but was limited to 43 games last season due to injuries.

It remains to be seen whether Fultz will immediately start or come off the bench, but his presence adds much-needed ball-handling and playmaking to Sacramento’s rotation.

Kings’ Playoff Push: Can Fultz Make an Impact?

The Kings are currently 28-26, sitting in eighth place in the Western Conference following a 119-111 win over the Pelicans.

With Zach LaVine struggling with injuries and Domantas Sabonis needing a reliable pick-and-roll partner, Fultz could be a valuable addition as Sacramento fights for a playoff spot.

The question now: Can Fultz stay healthy and return to his best form? If so, the Kings may have found a steal in free agency.
