Shakur Stevenson Backs Terence Crawford to Defeat Canelo Alvarez in Upcoming Mega-Fight

The highly anticipated showdown between Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez is set to make waves later this year, as the undefeated WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson has shared his thoughts on the fight.

Crawford, who is aiming to become a five-weight world champion, will challenge Canelo Alvarez for his WBC, WBA, and WBO super middleweight titles. The bout is expected to be officially confirmed within the next few weeks, with Las Vegas as the likely venue this September.

Crawford, a boxing powerhouse from Omaha, Nebraska, will face Canelo, who has been the dominant force in the 168lb super middleweight division since capturing the undisputed championship in 2021 with a win over Caleb Plant. The Mexican icon has successfully defended his titles against top-tier fighters like Gennady Golovkin, Jermell Charlo, and Jaime Munguia.

Shakur Stevenson’s Bold Prediction

Speaking to talkSPORT, Crawford’s training partner, Shakur Stevenson, expressed his confidence in ‘Bud’’s ability to overcome Canelo, claiming that Crawford’s style could make the fight look “easy” despite Canelo’s impressive track record.

“I’ve been saying this for years now. I’ve probably been the first one saying this – even before Terence was saying it. I always thought that Crawford’s style against Canelo, I think he beats Canelo. I’m not saying it’ll be an easy fight, but he can make it a very easy fight,” said Stevenson.

Crawford’s Recent Performance & Canelo’s Dominance

  • Terence Crawford made his debut at 154lbs in August 2024, where he defeated Israil Madrimov, although his performance was somewhat underwhelming.
  • Meanwhile, Canelo Alvarez displayed a solid showing against Edgar Berlanga in September, holding onto his unified super middleweight titles.

What’s at Stake?

This fight is shaping up to be a dream match-up between two of boxing’s biggest names, and with both fighters at the peak of their careers, the stakes couldn’t be higher. Crawford will attempt to add another championship title to his collection, while Canelo will look to solidify his dominance at super middleweight.

The fight, scheduled for September 2025, will take place in Las Vegas, a fitting stage for what could be one of the most exciting bouts in recent boxing history.
