Steelers Reportedly Inquire About Blockbuster Trevor Lawrence Trade

The Pittsburgh Steelers are leaving no stone unturned in their search for a new starting quarterback, and their latest inquiry could shake up the NFL.

According to Ryan Burr of the Big Ten Network, the Steelers have reached out to the Jacksonville Jaguars regarding a potential trade for former No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence.

“Steelers have made inquiries to the Jaguars about a trade for QB Trevor Lawrence. This directly from the horse’s mouth in the Jags organization,” Burr reported. “Steelers would deal this year’s #1 and #2, but with the draft in Pittsburgh next year, I would be very surprised if next year’s #1 is even on the table.”

Burr later clarified that the proposed trade package was his speculation, not an official Steelers offer. He did not indicate whether Jacksonville is open to dealing Lawrence, though it seems unlikely given their recent investment in him.

Since being drafted in 2021, Lawrence’s career has been a mixed bag. While he has shown flashes of brilliance, he has struggled with consistency—partly due to Jacksonville’s dysfunction and failure to provide a stable supporting cast. Despite the ups and downs, the Jaguars committed to Lawrence with a massive five-year, $275 million contract extension in 2024, keeping him under contract through 2030.

Would the Jaguars actually consider moving on from their franchise quarterback? Probably not, especially after hiring offensive-minded head coach Liam Coen to further develop him.

Still, the Steelers’ willingness to explore such a bold move is encouraging. If Lawrence were to hit the trade market, he would draw significant interest from teams seeking a long-term answer at quarterback. For Pittsburgh, he would be a far more exciting option than simply bringing back Russell Wilson or Justin Fields.

While a deal remains highly unlikely, the Steelers’ pursuit of a high-upside quarterback signals a proactive approach—one that could shape their future under center.
