De’Von Achane Dolphins Have ‘Dogs’ Already, No Need for Roster Overhaul
Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane has addressed recent comments made by teammate Tyreek Hill, who suggested the team needed to add more “dogs” to the roster for 2025. While Hill’s statement hinted at a potential need for new talent, Achane believes the Dolphins already have the necessary pieces in place to compete at the highest level.
In an appearance on the Up and Adams Show on Friday, Achane stated that the Dolphins already have “dogs” on their current roster but emphasized that the team needs to bring out their full potential. “We got dogs, we just need more people to bring it out,” Achane explained.
“Last year’s team isn’t going to be the same as this year’s team, so we know how the season went last year, and this year we should make sure that we don’t run into those errors. We know what we’re capable of. If we’re all on [the same page], I feel like we’re a hard team to beat.”
The Dolphins narrowly missed out on the playoffs in 2024, finishing with an 8-9 record, and their postseason drought continued. Despite high expectations, Miami’s offense, which boasts star players like Hill, Achane, Tua Tagovailoa, and Jaylen Waddle, struggled at times, particularly due to Tagovailoa’s injury setbacks earlier in the season.
Achane reflected on the missed opportunities, acknowledging the team had trouble finding consistency early on but was finally beginning to click by the season’s end.
“It sucks that the season ended when we started getting it together,” Achane said. “It would’ve helped if we figured it out earlier. The season would have been better.”
Achane also remains optimistic about the team’s current roster and its ability to bounce back in 2025. Though Hill’s production dipped this season, falling short of 1,000 yards after coming close to 2,000 the year before, and Waddle also saw a decline, Achane believes the Dolphins can reach their full potential.
Despite these struggles, Achane had a breakout second season, finishing 12th in scrimmage yards and contributing significantly both in rushing and receiving, with six touchdowns in each category.
Looking ahead, Achane is focused on improving further. “I feel like breaking down film after the season, I left some big runs on the table that I wish I could have back,” he said. “I feel like my third year going into the season, I haven’t hit the 1,000-yard mark rushing yet, so that’s something that’s in mind. I feel like that’s something that I could have done last year.”
With Achane’s confidence and the return of key players, the Dolphins are hopeful that they can take the next step and turn their promising pieces into consistent success in 2025.
