Josh Allen Claims 2024 NFL MVP, Edges Lamar Jackson in Tight Race
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has been named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the 2024 season, narrowly defeating two-time winner Lamar Jackson in one of the closest MVP races in recent years.
Allen, who guided the Bills to their fifth straight AFC East title, received 27 out of 50 first-place votes from a national panel of media members, finishing with 383 total points. Jackson, who led the Baltimore Ravens to a second consecutive AFC North championship, garnered 23 first-place votes and finished with 362 points.
Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley took third place with 120 points, followed by Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow (82) and Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff (47).
This season’s MVP race was the tightest since 2016, when Matt Ryan narrowly beat Tom Brady. The award was presented at a star-studded ceremony in New Orleans’ Saenger Theatre, hosted by hip-hop legend Snoop Dogg, just ahead of the Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.
After receiving the MVP honor, Allen humbly reflected on his achievement, saying, “I do appreciate it. I think there are a few guys on my team who appreciate it even more than I do. This award isn’t the reason why I play this game.”
Allen continued, “Obviously I want to be recognized as great at what I do and one of the best at what I do, but I still want the Super Bowl. That’s our goal. But I will say this, this award means your team had a lot of success. We didn’t get it done, but we will keep working until we do.”
Allen’s stellar season, which featured a standout performance and leadership, marked a significant achievement in his career as he continues his pursuit of the ultimate goal: a Super Bowl championship.
