Bruce Brown, now in his seventh NBA season, has become a well-regarded role player known for his gritty defense and versatile offensive game. The 28-year-old wing was instrumental in helping the Denver Nuggets win their first-ever NBA title in 2023.
Brown appeared in 80 regular season games (31 starts) and 20 playoff contests, making significant contributions to the Nuggets’ championship run. In the NBA Finals against the Miami Heat, Brown scored double-digit points in four of the five games, including a crucial 21-point performance in Game 4 that helped Denver seize control of the series.
After the championship victory, Denver aimed to re-sign Brown to help defend their title. However, in the 2023 offseason, Brown signed a lucrative two-year free-agent contract with the Indiana Pacers, which included a team option for the 2024-25 season. After a trade to the Toronto Raptors, the team exercised the option in June 2024, and Brown went on to play 52 games for Toronto over parts of two seasons.
With the 2025 NBA trade deadline looming, Brown was once again on the move—this time being traded to the New Orleans Pelicans. His journey has seen him travel across several teams, but his skill set remains highly valued.
A native of Boston, Brown had a standout college career at Miami, where he played two seasons for the Hurricanes. During his time at Miami, he showcased his all-around game, averaging 11.7 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. His strong college performance earned him a second-round pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.
Brown’s versatility is his hallmark. Teams have consistently coveted his ability to play stifling defense and contribute in a variety of offensive roles. He’s a solid mid-range shooter and a reliable roller in pick-and-roll situations, with a career field goal percentage of 48% across 434 NBA games, 256 of which were starts.
Off the court, Brown has developed a reputation for his unique style, earning the nickname “Cowboy Bruce” due to his love of cowboy-inspired outfits. From ten-gallon hats to snakeskin boots, Brown’s western flair has drawn attention, with GQ once commenting on his offbeat approach to fashion: “The small forward’s western flair is a wild ride off the beaten trail.”
As Bruce Brown’s career continues, his journey through the NBA reflects not only his ability on the court but his distinct personality off it, making him a fascinating player to watch as he takes on his latest role with the New Orleans Pelicans.
