For the first time since the Toronto Raptors’ 2019 championship celebration, an NBA event returned to the iconic Oracle Arena. The Ruffles All-Star Celebrity Game kicked off the All-Star Weekend festivities, bringing basketball excitement back to Oakland.
The game featured two teams coached by Bay Area legends—Jerry Rice, NFL Hall of Famer, and Barry Bonds, the MLB All-Time Home Run King. The victory ultimately went to Bonds’ team, who pulled away in the second half for a 66-55 win after a defensive showdown.
Rome Flynn, Emmy-winning actor known for roles in “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “How to Get Away With Murder,” was named the MVP. Flynn, who trained with renowned basketball coach Olin Simplis (who has worked with stars like Kevin Durant and Breanna Stewart), showcased impressive skills, hitting a 35-foot shot and dazzling with solid ball handling and shooting.
The standout moment for Team Rice came from Shelby McEwen, a silver medalist in the high jump for Team USA at the 2024 Olympics. McEwen delivered two dunks, including a windmill that could rival the best dunks seen in Saturday’s competition.
The game was broadcast on ESPN, with Cassidy Hubbarth returning as host. Mark Jones provided play-by-play commentary, joined by analysts Richard Jefferson and Stephanie White.
The celebrity rosters were packed with talent, including comedian Druski, Grammy-nominated artists Noah Kahan and Shaboozey, former NFL star Terrell Owens, and Olympic medalists Masai Russell and Shelby McEwen.
NBA Champion Matt Barnes, Marvel star Danny Ramirez, and WWE Superstar Bayley were also part of the action. WNBA stars Allisha Gray and Kayla Thornton made their appearances on opposing teams, with the game featuring a unique mix of athletic talent from various sports and entertainment industries.
Coaches included the legendary 2 Chainz, Jerry Rice, Barry Bonds, and influencer Khaby Lame. The event also featured the Ruffles® 4-Point Ridgeline and Ruffles® Crunch Time, providing fans with an exciting, interactive experience.
All eyes were on Oakland, as the NBA shared its basketball spirit and culture with the Bay Area once again.
