Commanders Linebacker Frankie Luvu Fined $33,766 After Two Missed Penalties in Win Over Lions

Washington Commanders linebacker Frankie Luvu found himself on the receiving end of two significant fines following his performance in last week’s victory over the Detroit Lions. Although the officials missed two crucial penalties during the game, the NFL’s disciplinary process caught up with Luvu.

The first violation occurred when Luvu delivered a helmet-to-helmet hit on Lions quarterback Jared Goff after he threw an interception that the Commanders returned for a touchdown. Had the penalty been called, the touchdown would have been nullified, although the interception itself would have still stood. The hit left Goff requiring a concussion check, which sidelined him for the Lions’ next offensive series. For this infraction, Luvu was fined $16,883.

The second fine came after Luvu executed a hip-drop tackle on Detroit running back Jahmyr Gibbs during the following Lions series. This play also went unflagged, but it resulted in another fine of $16,883.

As a result, Luvu now faces a total of $33,766 in fines for the game, highlighting the NFL’s ongoing efforts to enforce player safety and hold players accountable for dangerous plays.
