Glen Davis Opens Up About Tensions with Doc Rivers, Calls Out Clippers Coach for 2010 Finals Loss

Former NBA player Glen Davis has never been shy about expressing his feelings toward his former coach Doc Rivers. In a recent appearance on the “You’re Welcome Network,” Davis shared candid and heated reflections on his time with Rivers, especially during his stints with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Davis, who played under Rivers both as a rookie with the Boston Celtics and later with the Clippers, admitted to feeling betrayed by Rivers during his time in LA.

After being waived by the Orlando Magic during the 2013-14 season, Davis joined Rivers’ Clippers for a playoff push, hoping to contribute alongside stars like Chris Paul and Blake Griffin. However, things didn’t go as smoothly as Davis had hoped.

One moment in particular stood out to Davis as an example of his falling out with Rivers. He recalled a heated exchange during a game in Houston, where Rivers pulled him out of the game and ordered him to leave the bench. “I said, ‘Doc, why you brought me here, man? I’m trying to play.’

He looks at me and says, ‘Go to the back!’” Davis described the situation, which ended with security escorting him off the court. He felt that Rivers’ increased power and pressures as both the coach and team president led to his harsh treatment.

“He kicked me off, so I knew it wasn’t the same Doc,” Davis continued. “He was doing it for himself… he was the president at the time, and when you’re president, you can go and sign your son.”

Davis went further, calling Rivers’ actions “low-key a c**n” and accusing him of selfish decision-making that hurt the team. This isn’t the first time Davis has expressed his discontent with Rivers. Back in 2022, Davis publicly blamed Rivers for the Boston Celtics’ loss in the 2010 NBA Finals against the LA Lakers, a loss that denied the Celtics their second championship in three years.

While Davis won a championship under Rivers with the Celtics in 2008, his relationship with the coach soured after his move to the Clippers, culminating in a messy exit that still fuels his grievances today.
