Super Bowl Countdown NFL Honors, Super Bowl Rankings, and More!
Welcome to the Thursday edition of the Pick Six newsletter!
I can hardly believe it, but the Super Bowl is only three days away! Time has completely lost meaning here in New Orleans, a city where it feels like “it’s five o’clock somewhere” is a lifestyle, not just a saying.
We’ve got a jam-packed newsletter today: We’re not only handing out our own NFL awards ahead of tonight’s NFL Honors but also ranking every Super Bowl ever played. So, let’s dive right in.
1. NFL Honors is Tonight – But First, Our Own Award Winners
Tonight marks the annual NFL Honors ceremony, airing at 9 p.m. ET on Fox. Snoop Dogg will host the two-hour event, where the NFL will hand out all its major awards, from MVP to Coach of the Year.
But before all that, the CBS Sports team has voted on its own winners, and we included postseason performances in our choices (a twist, since the official NFL awards only consider the regular season).
- Offensive Player of the Year: Saquon Barkley
- Defensive Rookie of the Year: Jared Verse
- Coach of the Year: Kevin O’Connell
- MVP: Lamar Jackson AND Josh Allen (a tie!)
With 18 voters, both Jackson and Allen received seven first-place votes each. Our Coach of the Year vote was tight, with O’Connell edging out Dan Quinn by just one vote. You can check out the full list of our award winners here.
2. Ranking All 58 Super Bowls
Will Brinson has ranked every Super Bowl ever played, and we’re bringing you the top 10! Here’s a sneak peek at the list:
- 1. Super Bowl XLIX: Patriots 28-24 over Seahawks
- 2. Super Bowl XLII: Giants 17-14 over Patriots
- 3. Super Bowl LII: Eagles 41-33 over Patriots
- 4. Super Bowl LI: Patriots 34-28 (OT) over Falcons
- 5. Super Bowl XIII: Steelers 35-31 over Cowboys
- 6. Super Bowl XXV: Giants 20-19 over Bills
- 7. Super Bowl XXIII: 49ers 20-16 over Bengals
- 8. Super Bowl XXXIV: Rams 23-16 over Titans
- 9. Super Bowl III: Jets 16-7 over Colts
- 10. Super Bowl XLIII: Steelers 27-23 over Cardinals
You might be surprised that the Chiefs vs. Eagles Super Bowl (38-35 Chiefs win) didn’t make the top 10, even though it had a thrilling finish. It’s ranked 12th, which, let’s be honest, still sounds pretty good! For the complete ranking, click here.
3. Patrick Mahomes vs. Vic Fangio: A Look at the Numbers
One of the key matchups in Super Bowl LIX is Patrick Mahomes vs. Vic Fangio, the Eagles’ defensive coordinator. Fangio is 0-8 in his career against Mahomes, but don’t be too quick to judge.
The reason? Fangio’s offenses have averaged only 11.9 points per game in those games! Mahomes has been the much better quarterback, but Fangio hasn’t had much help on the offensive side. Read more about why Fangio might still be confident heading into Sunday’s showdown here.
4. Super Bowl LIX: Players Who Could Make the Hall of Fame
With NFL Hall of Fame inductions happening tonight, we thought it was the perfect time to predict which Super Bowl LIX players could one day make it to Canton. Here’s a quick look at our predictions:
- Hall of Fame Locks:
- Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes
- Chiefs TE Travis Kelce
- Toss-up:
- Eagles DE Brandon Graham
- Eagles CB Darius Slay
- Eagles OT Lane Johnson
- Close, but not quite there:
- Chiefs DE Chris Jones
- Eagles RB Saquon Barkley

5. NFL Heading to Australia in 2026: What You Need to Know

- The game will take place in Melbourne, with the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground as the venue.
- The opponent won’t be announced until later, but one of several NFC or AFC teams will play against the Rams.
